Write the Story You Want to Live

Every day, we write a story.

But most of the time, we’re not the ones holding the pen.

We react. We perform. We chase expectations. We carry other people’s opinions around like they belong to us.

But what if you paused—just for a moment—and asked yourself, “What do I actually want this day to feel like?”

That’s what this week’s affirmation was all about:

I welcome this day as a blank page, ready to write a story of grace, growth, and gentle power.

You don’t need a fresh start on Monday, or a clean house, or a perfect schedule. You just need a moment to set your intention and let that guide your actions.

One of the best ways to do this is to start small. Choose a word. Choose a feeling. Write it on a sticky note. Put it on your phone background. Let that one word shape how you move through the day.

Let’s say you pick “connection.” Suddenly you find yourself making eye contact, sending a text, reaching out to someone you’ve been thinking about. If you pick “joy,” maybe you listen to music while you clean, or notice something beautiful you would’ve missed in your rush.

This is not about controlling the day. It’s about choosing how you show up inside it.

Even if everything around you feels messy or uncertain, this moment is still yours. The page is blank. You get to decide how it’s written.

So, what intention do you want to write into the story of today?

3 Quotes to Ponder:

  1. “Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want.” —Ken Poirot

  2. “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” —Arthur Ashe

  3. “The way you tell your story to yourself matters.” —Amy Cuddy

2 Thought Experiments:

  1. If your day was a short story, what would the title be? Would it be something you chose, or something you defaulted into? What would you rename it?

  2. Imagine you’re reading your journal one year from now. What would you love to say about how you began this day? What intention would you hope you had set?

1 Action Step (Journal Prompt):

What intention do I want to write into the story of today, and how can I let it guide my actions?

This can be your quiet ritual every morning. Say it aloud. Write it down. Then let it shape what comes next.

Remember, I'm here to support you on this journey!

Warmly,

Vickie Poole
