What if you’re not lost but just disconnected?
A weekend in nature reminded me how to come home to myself. You don’t have to escape your life to return to your truth.

Did someone forward this email to you? How wonderful!

A few days ago, I came back from a retreat at Wild Woods Retreat in Tennessee, and something inside me feels different. Softer. Clearer. Quieter.
I didn’t open my laptop once. I barely touched my phone. I didn’t even bring makeup. We slept under the stars by a creek, hiked, cooked on a campfire, and shared stories that didn’t need to be polished. We laughed like teenagers. We read by flashlight. We let nature dictate the rhythm of our days.
Something about stepping into that stillness reminded me who I am underneath all the striving.
One night, I looked up and saw the stars so clearly it felt like they could hear me. Another night, we heard coyotes in the distance and frogs splashing in the water, like the whole forest was saying, “You can rest now.” The roosters woke us up at odd hours. We went to bed early and rose with the sun. And I remembered: stillness isn’t laziness. It’s sacred.
We don’t have to earn our rest. We don’t have to justify why we’re slowing down. That rhythm is built into us, just like it’s built into the trees and tides.
Since I’ve been back, I’ve been paying attention to how easily I slip out of sync. The constant buzzing. The need to explain, to perform, to perfect. At the retreat, I allowed myself to be seen without the usual filters. And I liked what I saw. I felt more grounded, more me, more… radiant.
Even the stick that got lodged under my car on the way home turned into a sweet little miracle. I asked the right stranger for help, and he immediately showed up with kindness. No fanfare, just a human helping a human. That kind of grace seems to show up more often when I’m grounded.
So this week, I’m inviting you to do what I’m doing: take one walk without your phone in your hand. Don’t multitask. Don’t overthink. Let the real you breathe again.
You don’t have to escape your life to return to yourself. You just have to listen. She’s still in there, waiting patiently for your attention.
3 Quotes to Ponder:
“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” – Anne Lamott
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” – Lao Tzu
“You already have the precious mixture that will make you well. Use it.” – Rumi
2 Thought Experiments:
If your truest, most grounded self could make all your decisions this week, what would change?
Imagine meeting a version of you who never stopped trusting her intuition. What advice would she give you today?
1 Action Step (Journal Prompt):
What is one thing I can do today to reconnect with the most authentic version of me?
Remember, I'm here to support you on this journey!
Warmly,
Vickie Poole
