What if this delay is actually protecting you?
A broken air fryer taught me a surprising lesson about timing, trust, and what’s really worth fixing.

A few weeks ago, my beloved Pampered Chef air fryer died. Or so I thought.
I tried everything… different plugs, resetting the outlet. Nothing. It just sat there, lifeless. So I borrowed a backup and started looking for a replacement.
But I never actually threw it away.
I kept thinking I’d take it to my sister’s house so my brother-in-law could haul it off for me. But every time I planned to go, something came up. The timing never worked out. So the air fryer sat there… broken, or maybe just waiting.
Then one day, while I was driving my mom and stepdad to the airport, I had a thought: What if he could fix it? My stepdad loves projects like that. I asked if he’d take a look, and he said yes.
A few days later, he called and said, “Don’t buy a new one. It’s working again.”
I know it’s just an appliance. But it felt like more than that.
It reminded me that sometimes, what we think is broken just needs a little attention, a little time,or the right person to see what’s possible. That delay that felt annoying might have actually been perfect timing. That door that won’t open might not be your door. And the thing you’re trying to walk away from might not be done serving you just yet.
I saved money, sure. But more than that, I was reminded to pause. To stop rushing to replace or abandon things - or people, or ideas - just because they aren’t working the way I expected.
Not everything needs to be discarded. Sometimes, what looks like a detour is actually a blessing.
What if things not working out is exactly what clears the way for something even better?
3 Quotes to Ponder:
“Sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.” — Dalai Lama
“You can't read the label from inside the jar.” — Unknown
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.” — Rumi
2 Thought Experiments:
What are you calling “broken” that might not be? Could it be asking for attention, not abandonment?
What if every delay you’re facing is perfectly timed to protect or redirect you?
