I am a work in progress

This week’s affirmation was simple—and powerful:

I am a work in progress, and that is perfectly okay.
Every step I take brings me closer to who I want to become.

That landed hard for me.

Because no matter how much we grow, we still have moments where we question if we’re doing enough, moving fast enough, or getting it “right.”

But growth doesn’t always look loud or obvious. Sometimes it looks like waking up after a tough week and choosing peace instead of panic. Sometimes it looks like correcting a spiral before it gets going.

Yesterday, I messed up something on my schedule. Then someone reached out and reminded me of something I forgot. One thing piled on another, and I could feel the tension creeping in. That old anxious spiral wanted to take over.

But I stopped. I sat in silence. I put on a timer for 25 minutes and gave myself space to breathe and reset. And out of that stillness, an idea for my book came through—so good that I spent the rest of the afternoon writing with joy and purpose.

That’s progress. Not the kind you post about. The kind that’s personal. Private. Quiet.

But here’s what I know now: quiet doesn’t mean small.
Subtle doesn’t mean stagnant.
And a work in progress is still doing the work.

So if you’ve had a week where the growth wasn’t visible, I invite you to reflect anyway. You’ve probably done more than you think.

3 Quotes to Ponder:

“Progress is not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.”
—Khalil Gibran

“A little progress each day adds up to big results.”
—Unknown

“Even the smallest shift in perspective can unlock the biggest transformation.”
—Vickie Poole

2 Thought Experiments:

  1. The Subtle Shift
Think back to a moment this month when you handled something differently than you would have a year ago.
What changed? What did that reveal about who you’re becoming?

  2. The Unseen Evidence
If your journal were a mirror, what would it reflect back to you about your growth?
    What wins—however quiet—deserve recognition?

1 Action Step (Journal Prompt):

What are three small ways I’ve grown in the past month, even if they felt insignificant at the time?

Bonus: after journaling, re-read your entry and circle one moment you want to celebrate out loud—say it, share it, or write it on a sticky note for your future self.

Remember, I'm here to support you on this journey!

Warmly,

Vickie Poole
